Making CBD Your Resolution
Ever wonder what CBD is and why it helps so many different problems? I am asked all the time: how can CBD help children with seizures, PTSD, anxiety, pain, inflammation, digestive issues, depression, sleep, blood pressure, and diabetes? CBD, or cannabidiol, is just one of over 100 cannabinoids found within the cannabis or hemp plant. After the Farm Bill of 2018 we have been able to do research that was previously not possible due to the fact that cannabis was under prohibition.
CBD activates a system in our body called the endocannabinoid system. Yes, we literally have a system that God put in our body to receive cannabinoids, and He gave us one plant in nature that activates it. The job of CBD is to bring your body into balance and homeostasis. When we activate this system, it tells your body to produce the proper response — proper pain response, proper digestive response, immune response — as well as regulating mood, blood pressure, blood sugar, and sleep-wake cycles.
In a nutshell, it is your own body doing what God made it to do, because we are giving it something it is looking for to function optimally. Just like any other deficiency — vitamins and nutrients — our bodies cannot heal and repair themselves without the proper nutrition they need. We are cannabinoid deficient. Due to prohibition we have not had access to the cannabinoids our body is looking for to function properly.
Understanding the Chain Reaction
The most widely touted use for CBD is probably its ability to support the body’s natural processes. So let me explain the chain reaction. We all have pain, even those who say they do not. As a society we have learned to ignore most of how we feel and just push through. Whether our pain is physical or emotional, we all have some. When we hurt it creates stress, and then that pain and stress keep us from sleeping well. It also interrupts our natural healing and recovery response.
Sleep is where our bodies heal and recover, and if it is interrupted by pain or simply not being able to turn off your mind, then everything snowballs downhill from there and we are caught in a vicious cycle of dysfunction. Discomfort in our joints begins to look like arthritis, and the discomfort from that keeps us from being as active, which then disrupts our sleep where we heal. Without proper sleep our mental capacities diminish. Do you see the pattern? So if we decrease discomfort, we can be more active during the day and sleep better at night.
Consistency Is Everything
Think of CBD like a vitamin. It is important to be consistent to get the benefits you are looking for. It is also important to get a high enough dose, or it might as well be snake oil. Finding the right dose for you takes trial using different amounts to see where you feel best. You cannot overdose on CBD. But if you are on pharmaceutical medications, you should always check with your doctor or pharmacist to make sure there are no known interactions before starting a CBD resolution.
Did You Know?
Glaucoma was one of the few approved conditions to be part of the federal government’s Compassionate Use marijuana program, started back in 1978. Thirteen patients received cannabis grown at the University of Mississippi — each patient was sent a tin of 150 pre-rolled joints every month. Cannabis has shown to be effective at alleviating the pressure behind the eyes. Because cannabis is a vasodilator — opening the blood vessels to decrease pressure — it can also help with blood pressure and migraines through vasodilation.
