Hemp oil and CBD oil come from the same plant, but they are not the same product, and they do not do the same thing. And honestly, a lot of the confusion is intentional.
Hemp Oil: What It Actually Is
Hemp oil, more accurately called hemp seed oil, is made from the seeds of the plant. The seeds do not contain cannabinoids. That means hemp seed oil does not contain CBD. It is rich in healthy fats and omega fatty acids and has real value in nutrition and skincare. But it does not interact with the endocannabinoid system. It will not produce any of the effects people are looking for when they go looking for CBD.
CBD Oil: What Makes It Different
CBD oil is made from the flowers and aerial parts of the plant, where cannabinoids are actually produced. That is where CBD comes from, along with the other compounds that help support the body’s regulatory system.
How Deceptive Marketing Creates the Confusion
Products labeled hemp in bold letters, packaged to look like CBD, priced to feel like a deal. That is not confusion by accident. It leads people to believe they are buying CBD when they are not. They try it, feel nothing, and walk away thinking CBD does not work. That is not what happened. They never took CBD in the first place. This happens all over the marketplace, including large online retailers where CBD is restricted but hemp seed oil is not.
What to Look For When Buying CBD
If you are actually looking for CBD, there are a few things that should always be clear: the amount of CBD in milligrams, the type of extract such as full spectrum or isolate, and third-party lab testing that confirms what is in the product. If you do not see those things clearly stated, you are not buying CBD.
